Class A MELT Program

AZ License Training in Toronto and Niagara

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: Effective July 1st, 2017, the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) will be implementing mandatory entry-level training for commercial Class A truck drivers. All new drivers completing the Class A road test on or after July 1st, 2017 will have to successfully complete the mandatory entry-level training course before attempting their Class A Road Test. The course requirements will include a minimum of 103.5 hours of training. The MELT program offered at Great Truck Driving School meets the mandatory requirements and has been approved by the Ministry Of Transportation and the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.

Great Truck Driving School provides AZ license training in Toronto and Niagara. O goal is to strive for excellence in driving training and safety, on and off the road. Our role is to ensure every student receives the training and preparation required for the MTO written test, road test, and the AZ license. AZ Driving License Program

Our AZ course exceeds the training requirements set by the Ministry of Transportation. Learn how to drive a trailer and earn your AZ license in Ontario in a program designed by professional and experienced instructors. With over two decades of teaching experience, our instructors are dedicated to your success as you pursue your new career.

What does the AZ License Refresher Course Cover?

Refresher Training covers the following topics in one-on-one in cab sessions:

  • Regulatory and Legal Requirements in Canada/USA

How Long is the Course?


Depending on your experience operating a motor vehicle, you can register for a combination of training programs that suit your needs. 

The Mandatory Entry Level Training takes approximately 4-5 Weeks to complete. The refresher program scheduling and duration is dependant on the package.

Each driving lesson is scheduled for 1 hour.

What Can I Drive With My AZ

With a Full Class A license, students will be able to drive:

  • Any truck/tractor trailer combination

  • Any vehicle pulling double trailers

  • Any car or light truck covered by a Class G license

  • Any heavy trucks covered by Class D truck license 

  • A combination of motor vehicle and towed vehicles where the towed vehicles exceed a total gross weight of 46,00 kilograms (10,000 lbs) and has air brakes

  • Any vehicle covered under a restricted Class A truck license

In-Truck Training can be scheduled 7 days a week,  from 8am-12am.

Refresher Training

Great Truck Driving School offers refresher training or advanced standing training, providing students with basic theoretical and practical training to safely operate a tractor-trailer and refresh their previous knowledge of driving a Class A vehicle.

If you currently hold or previously held an AZ License, these packages may be more suitable for you to refresh your skills.
